Dear colleagues,
It’s a great pleasure to announce our next in-person Human Traces workshop: “Scales of Change: Human Traces Towards a Synthesis in Africa”
Which will take place on 22–26 July 2026 at Lake Elementaita Lodge, Naivasha, Kenya (https://maps.app.goo.gl/RCWVvMgFvSuMFiA49)
The event is aimed at MSc and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career researchers, and scientists working in paleosciences, with a particular focus on human traces and lake sediments in Africa. The aim of this workshop is to initiate a regional and continental synthesis of Human Traces research in Africa, address a major gap in current knowledge, and foster pan-African collaboration and networking.
A key component of the event will be a Summer School on July 24, designed to train and support the next generation of researchers. The summer school will include lectures by members of the Scientific Steering Committee and regional experts, introducing participants to state-of-the-art methods for studying human traces in natural archives. Graduate students will also have the opportunity to present their research through oral or poster presentations, including projects at an early or proposal stage.
PAGES has kindly agreed to support this workshop, which will primarily cover accommodation and meal costs for early-career researchers and participants from low- and middle-income countries, as well as the return trip to Nairobi from the venue. Not covered: Air ticket, Visa fee, travel health insurance.
